About Seamless
Seamless is Australia’s national clothing stewardship scheme, which aims to make Australian clothing truly circular by 2030, and significantly reduce the 200,000 tonnes of clothing that currently goes to Australian landfill each year.
It recognises that sustainability is the only possible pathway forward for our sector, and we can only do it if we all join forces to do better.
How Seamless works
Seamless takes a stewardship approach, which recognises that the clothing brands and retailers who place clothes on the market are responsible for the entire life of that garment, from design through to reuse, reprocessing and end of life.
Seamless is funded by a per garment contribution paid by clothing brands and retailers who are members of the scheme. These funds are invested across four strategic priorities:
- Circular design: incentivising clothing design that is more durable, repairable, sustainable and recyclable
- Circular business models: fostering new models for clothing reuse, repair, rental and services that prolong clothing life
- Closing the materials loop: expanding clothing collection and sorting practices for effective reuse and recycling
- Citizen behaviour change: encouraging changed practices around clothing acquisition, use, care and disposal
Seamless supporters
Seamless recognises that we’re stronger together and collaboration across the entire clothing industry is critical. Any organisation or individual that operates in Australia or internationally or has an active interest in the sustainability of the clothing industry in Australia, is invited to become a Seamless supporter. You could be an industry expert or association, an academic institution, a government agency, manufacturer, technology supplier or reuse or recycling operator.
