Seamless is operational from 1 July 2024 and the priorities for the next twelve months will help to drive the Australian clothing industry towards circularity by 2030. See how we’re developing better circular design practices, exploring viable recycling programs in Australia, and more.

Seamless addresses the critical problems facing the clothing industry, with over 200,000 tonnes of waste ending up in Australian landfill annually. With the pooled investments raised from member contributions, the priorities for the next twelve months are clear.

Better circular design practices

We’re working with Seamless members and supporters to develop better practices, principles and methodologies for circular design. We’re also further defining the eco-modular criteria to incentivise and reward brands that design garments with renewable fibres, and safe, recycled content that will keep clothes in circulation for longer.

Insights into circular business models

We’re identifying, documenting and sharing best practice insights and case studies on circular business models from both local Seamless members and international programs. We’re also defining and quantifying the stages of the clothing lifecycle to identify the intervention points and markets to extend the clothing lifecycle.

Exploring local, viable recycling and reprocessing practices

We’re focused on programs that close the loop, including benchmarking current and emerging recycling technologies, and sector capability, capacity and capital requirements for the most viable recycling practices in Australia.  We’re also working with Seamless members and supporters across the clothing value chain on defining collection, sorting and reprocessing for a national program, which will be a critical input for the support payment scheme for accredited providers.

Changing citizen behaviour

We’re developing a communications strategy to encourage citizens to rethink how they choose, enjoy and recycling their clothing.
