Our impact, our work plan, our reach and growing forward. Seamless CEO Ainsley Simpson reflects on our progress in the last month and our unwavering commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
Our impact
One touch of nature makes the whole world kin – William Shakespeare
We are celebrating nature by acknowledging the change each season brings. If you have been engaging with our team since Spring arrived in September, you will have noticed our virtual backgrounds are blooming with shady lady waratahs (Telopeaspeciosissima), an Australian-endemic genus, native to New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. ‘Waratah’ comes from the Eora Aboriginal word 'warada' meaning 'beautiful' or 'seen from afar'. As we validate this year’s work plan for our transition to a circular economy by 2030, it’s our visual reminder when making decisions to think of a beautiful future. What will our impact be when six Spring seasons have past?
Our work plan
Data from our member benchmarking activity has been collated with engagement and capability data from our supporters to ensure that our strategic priorities are aligned. Our plan is now being validated through Circularity Action Workshops with foundation members and high-volume clothing brands to ensure we appropriately reflect member progress and current practice. The initial workshops with the Sussan Group, KMD's Rip Curl and APG & Co's JAG have been a real highlight, with executives and diverse team members providing insights into their operations and brand strategies. Through these sessions, we have identified several collaborative initiatives to join our RE:THINK program. I encourage you to find out more about this program as it might be a good fit for your organisation too.
Our reach
As a transition broker, we are proud to bring people together to listen, learn and lead. Whenever you’re talking, you’re sharing what you already know. When you’re listening, you’re learning. This week, we’re thrilled to launch the Seamless Leadership Podcast - a platform for growth, innovation, and impact. Recording these episodes has been a thoroughly entertaining learning experience for me, thanks to the candid insights from industry leaders and the generosity of our incredible host, Clare Press.
The series delves into real-world initiatives, emerging challenges and the power of forward-thinking leadership. It also highlights the value of shared investment and how Seamless is driving system-level solutions for transformative change across the entire clothing lifecycle. I hope you enjoy collaboration through listening and learning as much as I do.
Our baseline
New national clothing benchmarking research is underway to baseline key metrics which will ensure we can credibly demonstrate that we are making progress towards circularity. The research and analysis includes the current state of clothing flows, based on the latest data and a transparent methodology. Early findings will be released next month, with the final report serving as an important input for national consultation on clothing circularity taxonomy commencing early in 2025.
Growing forward
With our collective growing, I offer a warm welcome to the 48 new responsible member brands and supporters that have joined Seamless over the past month. Thank you for your commitment to continuous improvement. Australia’s next competitive advantage will be defined by the pace at which we share – and transitioning to circularity is a shared responsibility.
